The Grossing Histotechnician is responsible for the accurate examination, description, and dissection of surgical specimens in a pathology laboratory. This role ensures proper tissue sampling for histologic processing and diagnosis under the supervision of a pathologist.

Qualifications: 

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology, Biology, or related field

Certification (preferred or required)

  • HT or HTL certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Experience

  • 1–3 years of histology or grossing experience preferred

Schedule: Mid 5x8-Hour (15:00 - 23:30)

Unit: Lab Immunocytochemistry
 

  • Perform routine and developmental immunochemistry and molecular laboratory techniques.  

  • Analyze and evaluate assays for sensitivity and specificity.  

  • Embed and prepare sections for various procedures by cutting off frozen or paraffin embedded tissue. 

  • Transport tissue specimens to the laboratory.  

  • Perform immunohistochemical and in-situ hybridization procedures, including handling and storing probes and antibodies.  

  • Mount, label and distribute prepared microscope slides.  

  • Prepare reagent buffers, solutions and stains.  

  • Replace reagents and perform daily maintenance on automated instrumentation.  

  • File surgical and autopsy blocks used for immunohistochemical techniques.

***HTL certification from ASCP  is required  (not just HT cert) ****
MUST BE A CERTIFIED HISTO TECH (HTL)  WITH (QIHC) IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY STAINS AND TROUBLESHOOTING OF PROGRAMS AND PROTOCOLS. 

Qualifications: 
Must have: Candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.
