Position Overview
We are seeking a general AP surgical pathologist comfortable with high volume of cases. The pathologist should also be comfortable with GYN, GI, and GU cases and must be able to do frozen and cytology quick reads.
Key Responsibilities
- Gross Examination (Macroscopic): Visually inspect, measure, describe, and dissect surgical specimens and select representative tissue samples for microscopic study.
- Microscopic Examination (Histologic): Analyze processed tissue slides under a microscope to identify abnormalities, confirm diagnoses, and stage diseases.
- Intraoperative Consultations (Frozen Sections): Provide rapid, real-time diagnostic feedback to surgeons during operations (e.g., checking margins, determining if a tumor is malignant).
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed pathology reports documenting findings, diagnosis, and prognostic information to guide treatment.
- Clinical Collaboration: Consult with surgeons, oncologists, and other physicians to interpret results and discuss patient treatment plans.
- Specialized Testing: Utilize and interpret immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and cytogenetics as necessary.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure laboratory compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards (CAP, CLIA).
Required Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Board Certification in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) required
- Active or eligible unrestricted California medical license required
- Strong understanding of hospital and laboratory operations
- Must be available at least two weeks per month consistently
