Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant, permanent
Job Location: Tallahassee, FL
Shift: M-F 10am-7pm with some flexibility required
Pay and Benefits: $90,000.00 to $140,000.00 annually depending on experience. Sign-on bonus, plus, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, disability, 401k, profit sharing and much more.
About the location: Living and working in Tallahassee, Florida offers a vibrant college town and political hub characterized by rolling red hills, canopy roads, and a humid subtropical climate. Founded in 1824, it hosts Florida State University, FAMU, and a bustling government scene. The city blends Southern charm with rich history, extensive nature trails, and a notable, though often crowded, Railroad Square Art District
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direct or indirect supervision of a pathologist, performs accessioning, dissection, histologic sampling, and gross examination of a full range of anatomical specimens, following established protocols.
Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations within established protocol and procedural parameters.
Clearly and accurately describes specimens and their measurements using canned dictation whenever appropriate.
Verifies specimen identity to prevent medical errors.
Uses correct specimen cassettes and starts tissue processor as needed.
Performs special hospital procedures and protocols, such as cancer research studies.
Safely operates Faxitron and other laboratory equipment.
Trains and mentors new students and new hires.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Pathologist or Administrator.
Ability to speak clearly using dictation equipment.
Ability to recognize types of tissues and types of biopsies.
Self-directed and able to work with little to no supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and speech.
Excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and research problems.
Knowledge of and ability to abide by safety policies and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights on rare occasions.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in health or science field required.
Certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.
Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred.
