Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant
Job Location: Syracuse, NY
Schedule: Day Shift

Dates: May 11th - June 01, 2026

Pay Range: $3,200

Qualifications:
  • 1+ years current Pathology Assistant experience [required]
  • (PA)ASCP required.  Equivalent certification not accepted [required]
  • MUST be competent in performing FROZEN SECTIONS, GROSSING BIOPSIES AND LARGE COMPLEX SPECIMENS
  • Master Degree [Preferred], but will review those with Bachelor Degree
  • Traveler must have their own vehicle for this need
  • Traveler perm address must be included in profile

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Review patient history at the time of gross examination to ensure accurate specimen handling
  • Perform gross examination, dissection, and documentation of surgical specimens
  • Capture gross photographs as needed and perform photomicrography for tumor conferences
  • Select appropriate tissue for special studies and ancillary testing when required
  • Assist with the processing and preparation of frozen section specimens
  • Communicate professionally with clinicians regarding specimen clarification when necessary
  • Oversee daily operations of the surgical pathology grossing room, including workflow management and support of technical staff
  • Ensure proper specimen accessioning, processing, and timely delivery to pathologists
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, including basic troubleshooting of instruments such as the cryostat
  • Review specimens and designate appropriate tissue/limb disposition in accordance with protocol
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all established SOPs related to specimen collection, labeling, processing, storage, and referral testing
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies
  • Stay current with policies, procedures, and continuing education requirements; complete competencies and documentation in a timely manner
  • Meet expected turnaround times while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Communicate relevant information clearly with team members, leadership, and stakeholders to support quality patient care
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality in accordance with organizational standards
  • Follow all safety guidelines and workplace policies at all times
