Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant – Travel Assignment
Location: Mt. Vernon, IL
Duration: 17 weeks, start May 4th
Schedule: Monday-Friday, day shift
Pay: $2900-$3500/week, max GSAs. Would also receive a round trip airfare/rental car OR mileage reimbursement and vehicle stipend.
Summary of position: This is a 134-bed facility recognized for its commitment to exceptional patient care. The hospital's pathology department provides a full spectrum of diagnostic services. These include surgical pathology, cytology, hematopathology, and specialized consultations. The laboratory is CAP accredited.
About the location: Living and working in Mount Vernon offers a relaxed, small-town lifestyle with a low cost of living and easy access to outdoor recreation, including nearby lakes and parks. The community is anchored by their local community hospital, providing stable healthcare employment in a collaborative environment. Its central location at the crossroads of Interstate 57 and 64 also makes travel to larger cities convenient while maintaining a quieter pace of life.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited PA program.
- ASCP PA certification (or eligibility with certification within 6 months).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital or reference lab preferred.
- Familiarity with Epic Beaker LIS and voice dictation systems a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed gross dissection and description of a wide range of surgical specimens
- Assist in the performance and documentation of autopsies.
- Photograph gross specimens and maintain image records for clinical and teaching purposes.
- Ensure specimen integrity and accurate labeling throughout the process.
- Collaborate with pathology residents, medical students, and histotechnologists.
- Participate in departmental QA/QC activities to maintain compliance with CAP standards.
