Job Description

Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant 

Job Location: Tallahassee, FL 

Schedule: M-F 10a-7p 

Dates: 05/25/26 - 8/25/26

Weekly Estimated Pay or Pay Range: $3,000 -3,200 (Includes hourly rate, meals & incidentals, rental car, lodging, round trip flight – taxed and tax-free income)

Home to Florida State University and Florida A&M University, it has a lively yet laid-back college-town feel. With easy access to outdoor spaces like Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and a lower cost of living, it’s a great spot for travelers looking for both comfort and character.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health or science-related field required
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant required
  • Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform accessioning, dissection, gross examination, and histologic sampling of a wide range of anatomical specimens under the supervision of a pathologist, following established protocols
  • Conduct frozen sections and intraoperative consultations within defined procedural guidelines
  • Accurately describe and document specimens, including measurements, using dictation systems when appropriate
  • Verify specimen identity to ensure patient safety and prevent errors
  • Prepare and manage specimen cassettes and initiate tissue processing as needed
  • Support special procedures and protocols, including cancer research studies
  • Safely operate laboratory equipment, including Faxitrons
  • Maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Communicate effectively with team members and leadership, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and specimen identification in daily practice
  • Collaborate within a team-oriented environment while maintaining strong interpersonal relationship
