Job Description

Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant – Travel Assignment
Location: Butler, PA
Duration: 8 weeks, ASAP start
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8.5-hour shifts with a 30-minute unpaid lunch


Pay: $3200-$3600/week depending on experience (includes transportation, lodging, per diem)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Pathologists’ Assistant for an 8-week travel assignment in Butler, Pennsylvania. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a team of pathologists in a collaborative environment, supporting a steady surgical pathology service. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently and managing a diverse caseload with minimal on-site PA support.

Practice Environment
 
  • Approximately 23,000 surgical specimens annually
  • Team includes 5 pathologists
  • Supported by 2 grossing technicians (1 full-time, 1 part-time)
  • No autopsy responsibilities

Qualifications
 
  • Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing PA
  • Strong proficiency in grossing a variety of specimen types and performing frozen sections
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of a wide range of surgical pathology specimens
  • Conduct intraoperative consultations, including frozen section preparation and processing
  • Ensure accurate specimen accessioning, labeling, and documentation
  • Prepare and submit tissue sections for histologic processing
  • Maintain compliance with CAP guidelines and institutional protocols
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to support efficient workflow and turnaround times
