About the Job: As the Histology Supervisor, you’ll lead a talented team of six histology technicians and set the tone for excellence across all aspects of the lab. From embedding and sectioning to H&E staining and advanced IHC work, you’ll ensure every slide produced meets the highest standards of quality and precision.

You’ll play a key role in creating a positive, collaborative environment where your team feels supported, motivated, and empowered to grow. Partnering closely with the Laboratory Director and pathology team, you’ll help shape the lab’s future by validating new technologies, improving workflows, and contributing to innovative diagnostic and research initiatives. Your leadership will keep operations running seamlessly through proactive equipment care, organized inventory management, and a continuous focus on quality improvement.

Qualifications:  

• Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in histology or a related laboratory discipline
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in histology, medical laboratory science, biology, or a related field strongly preferred

• Proven experience in histology and/or laboratory management, with the ability to lead and support technical teams

• Demonstrated proficiency in immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques and protocols (required)

• ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician preferred

• Skilled in embedding, microtomy, and staining procedures within a high-volume laboratory environment

• Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills

• Proficient in the operation of general laboratory instruments and equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, schedule, and supervise a team of six histology technicians to ensure high-quality, timely completion of slide preparations

• Oversee daily operations of the paraffin histology lab, including embedding, sectioning, H&E staining, and special staining procedures

• Champion safety, compliance, and quality control across all laboratory processes

• Manage and perform complex immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and protocol optimization

• Train, mentor, and support the professional development of histology staff, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement

• Collaborate with the Laboratory Director and pathology team to meet evolving diagnostic and research needs

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and validate new histologic procedures and technologies

• Monitor inventory and equipment performance to maintain smooth, uninterrupted laboratory operations
